Men's Toilet Refurbishment - Poole Lighting
Commercial Washrooms Refurbished the Women's Toilets and Shower Room at Poole Lighting in May of 2024, and we were invited back to tender on the Men's Toilets.
The Women's Toilet Refurbishment Case Study can be read here. It also includes a video interview with Katie Sadler, who showed us around the new office toilet installation and answered a few questions about the design and installation process.
For over thirty years, Poole Lighting has been a trusted designer, manufacturer, and supplier of lighting to leading UK and European retailers, wholesalers, and specifiers.
After the Washroom Design Team completed the initial consultation and the drawings were signed off, we started the strip out.
With older Buildings, our Refurbishment Team is always mindful of any hazardous materials they might encounter. They will put the correct processes in place and arrange for safe disposal before the project begins.
The walls are now covered in Hygienic Altro Whiterock waterproof cladding in a simple White finish, perfect for covering any old building blemishes.
The original Men's toilet block had been in continuous use for over a decade and desperately needed modernisation.
The original layout consisted of three randomly positioned Toilet Cubicles, two Urinals and three Hand Basins. During the consultation, the layout of the Toilet Cubicles was optimised, and the three wash basins became a single Wash Trough.
The new Wash Trough was repositioned to the right side of the toilet block to create more space in the centre of the room. This repositioning involved knocking down a dividing brick wall and adding a new Stud Wall on the opposite side for the Wash Trough and RAK Series 600 Urinals.
The three floor-to-ceiling SGL Toilet Cubicles are finished in a premium Chene Colorado wood grain effect laminate, complemented by Pierre de Lune brown edging—perfect for wet and dry areas.
Two hand basins were replaced with a classy double Corian Wash Trough and a Vanity Unit, which also provides storage for Hand Soap and cleaning materials. The vanity unit was finished with a Chene Colorado wood grain effect and complimentary Pierre de Lune brown. The walls are now covered in Hygienic Altro Whiterock waterproof cladding in a simple White finish.
Poole Lighting installed their own lighting.
Also included were RAK Origin 62 Monobloc Lever Mixer Tap, KWC DVS Counter Mounted Liquid Soap Dispensers and Dyson Airblade V Hand Dryers.
Washroom Efficiency
New suspended ceilings were then installed with an energy-efficient PIR lighting system. This system combined infrared sensors to activate the lights when users were in the room, eliminating the need to leave them on. It was paired with low-energy LED lights and emergency power backup supplied by battery packs.
We fitted new security bars as the White Rock Wall Cladding was formed around a transom window.
TMV3 Valves were also fitted to all the hot feeds to taps. This is a required safety measure that blends both hot and cold water feeds to deliver warm water, as opposed to just a hot feed. This water blending ensures a safe temperature and removes the risk of suffering hot water scalding.
Brushed Stainless Steel Soap Dispensers and energy-efficient Dyson Airblade Hand dryers were also installed.
