Heating & Humidity Within Washrooms

Heating & Humidity Within Washrooms

We all remember visiting icy school washrooms, those cavernous spaces that refused to warm up during the depths of winter. The fact is, the heating of washrooms is an area often overlooked during renovation and refurbishment projects.

While many spend time focusing on decisions such as hand basins or wash troughs, hand dryers or paper towels, one of the most important user requirements is left forgotten. Yes, heating is a vital necessity when creating dynamic, modern washrooms. No matter how great the usability of your new washroom might be, it can all be in vain if the room isn't adequately heated.

Radiators

Perhaps the most traditional type of heating in the washroom, radiators are great at heating rooms providing they have the correct BTU (British Thermal Unit) output for the space they’re in. This is worked out by calculating the cubic volume of the room, and then making adjustments for things like hard floors, windows and humidity levels derived from things like sinks, toilets and urinals. This will vary from site to site, so please get in touch if you would like to discuss radiator and towel rail options in your washroom.

Towel rails

In smaller private washrooms, particularly in corporate offices, restaurants and sports clubs, high-performance towel rails can be a strong choice for heating your washroom. This option allows you to deliver heating to your room as well as a luxurious method of hand drying

Convection heaters

This is a highly effective way of heating washrooms. Convection heaters work by recirculating the air in the room, drawing cold air in over a heating element, then blowing the warm air out. This can be beneficial in rooms that do not already have plumbing for radiators as they work off of mains electricity.

Underfloor heating

This is a method mainly used in high-end members' clubs but is an effective method of heating. In areas where users will be moving through the room barefoot, such as showering spaces, this is an effective method of heating. This type of heating can be a little more complicated and expensive to install but is primarily used in environments such as golf and country clubs.
