We were approached by Ridgeway Primary School to take care of their refurbishments of one girl's and one boy's washrooms. With tired washrooms in need of modernisation, the school used this opportunity to make some improvements that not only improved the efficiency of their washrooms but significantly enhanced both durability and longevity.
After an initial consultation, we provided the school with a full design and specification, allowing them to have a clear view of how their finished washrooms will look, as well as a clear and precise breakdown of costs. Following sign-off, a date was selected to commence works over a half-term period so as not to disrupt day-to-day school operations.
Within a tight timeframe, our team stripped out the existing washrooms, taking them back to a bare shell. We then began the installation process. Half-height IPS DUCT sets were installed behind the toilets, hiding all pipework and cisterns within a concealed unit. Fronted in solid grade laminate (SGL), this material is completely impervious to water so will never swell or weaken from ingress water. The same material was used for the toilet cubicles, which featured a curved, low-height door and partitions - big enough to deliver privacy to pupils, but low enough to prevent misbehaviour and allow teachers to check on any early years students who may need assistance.
Altro Walkway flooring was installed underfoot, an anti-slip vinyl that laps up the wall to aid deep cleans. Meanwhile, Altro Whiterock wall cladding was also installed to further aid sanitisation and provide a smart, easy-to-clean wall surface that has strong antimicrobial and fire-retardant properties. Wall-mounted washbasins were hung beneath large format mirrors and partnered with non-concussive push taps. These taps emit water for a set period of time meaning water can’t be left running accidentally. The mixer taps are also partnered with TMV3 valves, a device required to blend both hot and cold water feeds to a safe temperature, mitigating the risk of users getting scalded.
Soap dispensers with a playful design were also used in both the boy's and girl's washrooms. Paired with the bright colours of the toilet cubicles, this helped create an inviting and engaging washroom that will help foster strong personal hygiene habits in pupils present and future.
Completed on time and on budget, the faculty, PTA, and governors were incredibly pleased with the finished results, which were provided as a full turn-key service.
