Mirrors are one of the most overlooked and undervalued elements in a commercial wash space. Often, it comes in as an afterthought, but when considered carefully, it can transform the washroom completely.
Why invest in mirrors?
We all know the trick that mirrors can make a room feel bigger and this is never more evident than when working with washrooms. Remember that most washrooms have limited or no natural light and so the expansive feel that mirrors deliver can be one of the most powerful tools when thinking about the look and feel of your new washroom refurbishment.
What size should a bathroom mirror be?
There’s no hard and fast rule when it comes to mirrors. Above the washbasins is the prime area to locate them, allowing users to tidy themselves up or apply makeup. However, thought should also be given to full height mirrors which are particularly effective when looking to create an executive feel in corporate environments.
Where do you hang a bathroom mirror?
As well as locating mirrors above and behind the washbasins, full height mirrors need to be located correctly. It’s common to install full height mirrors on the wall opposite the hand wash area so that as a user turns around, they can see themselves full height before exiting the room. Having distance between the full height mirrors and the hand wash area also helps prevent them from steaming up or getting splattered with water from high-powered hand dryers or over-enthusiastic hand washing. In some smaller washrooms, the back of the entrance door to the washroom is also a popular place to mount full-height mirrors for that final check before exiting the washroom.
Integrated mirrors
There are mirror options available that integrate things such as water controls, soap dispensers, and hand drying facilities. These units are wall-mounted and conceal all the services behind the mirror maximising usability and delivering a very clean, clutter-free aesthetic.
Our most popular behind mirror option is the ASI Velare Mirror System.
How to fit a bathroom mirror
Mirror installation can vary, particularly when it comes to integrated mirror units. However many washroom mirrors are either fitted with adhesive, or with purpose-made fittings that allow the mirror to be mounted safely and securely.
Over the years we have carried out many turn-key washroom refurbishments. For an example of how mirrors can be used effectively, see our case study on the project we carried out for the Association of British Insurers.
