Semi-recessed basin FAQs
What is a semi-recessed basin?
A semi-recessed basin is a style of basin that sits on top of a vanity unit but overhangs the countertop. It is essentially a cross between a fully recessed basin and a countertop basin. Here at Commercial Washrooms, we sell semi-recessed basins in a variety of designs and shapes.
How to fit a semi-recessed basin
We recommend that you hire a professional plumber to fit your semi-recessed basin to ensure that it is installed correctly. Here at Commercial Washrooms, we offer a full supply and fit service to help you with your washroom refurbishment project.
Here’s how to fit a semi-recessed basin:
-
Mark out where your semi-recessed basin will sit on your countertop - you may be given an installation template to help you do this.
-
Cut into your countertop over your markings
-
Use a varnish to coat the inside of the recess
-
Hold your semi-recessed basin in place (so you can mark out where your fixings will go) - you’ll need to do this by:
- Marking where your brackets will go and then place the basin to one side
- Drill in your fixing holes
- Fit in your wall plugs
- Put the brackets in place and secure them with screws.
-
Fit the basin in place, ensuring that you align these holes on the basin’s underside to the bracket holes.
-
Fix in metal expanders to keep the basin secure.
-
Apply silicone sealant around the basin’s edge, allowing about an hour for it to set.
-
Install the drain and trap.
-
Connect the water supply.
-
Turn your water supply on and test that everything is working and there’s no leakage.
What are the advantages of a semi-recessed basin?
With so many styles of basins available, you may be unsure of which type is right for your bathroom. Here are some of the benefits of semi-recessed basins:
-
They’re space-efficient - compared to fully recessed basins, they’re a more space-efficient option as you’ll have more room on your countertop (which can be used for soap dispensers and paper towels).
-
they‘re more practical - aside from them keeping more surface space clear, a semi-recessed basin is easier to reach and use.
-
They’re stylish - a semi-recessed basin is ideal for a modern washroom as it has a more modern style.
