There can be some confusion when it comes to wall-hung items over the correct height to install them. Everything from hand dryers and soap dispensers to washbasins and grab rails. However, few are as important to get right as the wall-hung toilet.
Why getting the height right matters
Most toilets have a firm fixing vertically into the floor. In fact, your traditional close-coupled toilet pan is designed to be self-supported from the ground up, spreading the weight of the unit and user evenly. Wall-hung toilets break away from convention and when installed look as if they are floating with the only fixings made horizontally into the wall or panel behind them. While close-coupled and back-to-wall toilets come at a set height, wall-hung toilets offer more customisation when it comes to fitting them. However, if the toilet is too low or too high, then it will be difficult for users to access them, and in extreme cases could actually become hazardous.
The benefits of wall-hung toilets
Wall-hung toilets deliver a number of benefits. Because they need to be partnered with a DUCT set, all the main plumbing services are concealed within a small service void or false wall behind the toilet pan. This not only protects them from accidental damage but reduces exposed surface areas, making the room much easier to clean. Wall-hung toilets deliver a smart, clean and very modern aesthetic too, and with the floor underneath them clear, the room appears more expansive and bigger. How high should a wall-hung toilet be?
The standard height for a wall-hung toilet is 400mm - that's from the floor surface to the top of the pan rim. However, if you are looking to install low-height toilet pans for children, you may look at options that allow you to install as low as 300mm. Read how to install wall-hung toilets here.
