Washroom Shelves and Storage FAQ

What are the benefits of washroom shelves and storage?

  • They are space efficient - washroom shelves and storage allow you to keep your washroom organised and clutter-free, maximising the amount of space available in your bathroom.

  • Keep essential items nearby - when you install washroom shelves and storage to easily accessible locations, you can quickly grab and store the items you need most.

  • You can get affordable washroom shelves and storage which are also easy to install.

How to mount a shelf to a wall

Installing washroom shelves and storage is easy, here’s how to install a shelf in just 5 steps:

  1. Make sure you have all the fixings required to install your shelf (realising you’re missing a screw halfway through the process is far from ideal!)

  2. Position the shelf where you’d like to mount it - you can use a spirit level to make sure that your shelf is level, marking the position of holes you will need to drill screws through with a pencil.

  3. Drill the holes - once the holes have been drilled, you can fill them with a silicone sealant.

  4. Insert wall plugs - making sure that you clear any excess silicone afterwards.

  5. Install the shelf - simply hold the shelf in place and insert the screws into the wall plugs. As you put the screws in, use a spirit level to ensure that the shelf remains level.

If you are inexperienced or worried about causing any damage to your washroom, we advise that you hire a professional or someone who is experienced to mount the shelf to your washroom wall for you.

How to install a corner shelf in a tile shower

If you are not comfortable with using drills, we recommend hiring a professional to carry out the installation for you - this will prevent any accidental damage and ensure that your washroom shelves and storage is correctly positioned.

Just purchased washroom shelves and storage? Here is a guide to installing a corner shelf in a tile shower:

  1. Ensure that the shower wall is clean

  2. Decide where you’d like to install the corner shelf and hold it against the tile (you can then use a pencil to mark out the areas where screws will be fitted into the tile wall and use a spirit level to ensure that the shelf is correctly aligned.)

  3. Apply a couple layers of masking tape over the pencil markings as this will help to keep the drill more firmly in place.

  4. Drill holes through the tiles using a masonry bit on your drill (perform this step carefully and slowly to avoid damaging your tiles). Once completed, you may remove the masking tape from your wall.

  5. Insert plastic anchors into the holes you have drilled

  6. Place screws into the plastic anchors and screw the shelf into the wall.

How to maximise space in a small bathroom

If your washroom is small, it can be a good idea to consider space-efficient solutions such as washroom shelves and storage to maximise the amount of space you have. Here are a few ideas to inspire you:

  • Install shelves - shelves can be installed as high or as low as you wish and are ideal for storing toiletries on the wall.

  • Install a corner shower basket - this is an ideal location for shampoo bottles and soap as it is accessible and helps to keep essential  items all in one place.

  • For disabled-friendly washrooms, you could consider installing a grab rail with a soap basket - this doubles up the use of the rail and makes the most out of the available space, plus, it ensures that items such as soap are within easy reach.

Consider installing wall hung basins or vanity units with inset basins - wall hung basins will free up some floor space whereas vanity units with inset basins double up to provide more storage space for items such as toilet paper, cleaning products and other essentials.
