FAQs
What is an electric shower?
An electric shower is a type of shower which is powered by electricity rather than just water pressure. They can also heat up water themselves rather than using water from your hot water tank.
How does an electric shower work?
Electric showers connect to your cold water supply and heat the water when needed with an inbuilt heating element. Water will then heat up as it passes the heating element before exiting the shower head onto the user.

Benefits of electric showers
There’s a wide range of mixer showers and shower valves available to choose from, but here are some reasons why you might consider a commercial electric shower:
-
Users can get instant hot water on demand.
-
They’re energy efficient as only water used gets heated - this also makes them a more cost-effective option.
-
They’re ideal for low pressure systems.
-
You can easily replace electric showers as they’re usually mounted to a wall’s surface opposed to being concealed.
Are electric showers safe?
Usually, the combination of water and electricity can be dangerous, however, a properly fitted electric shower is perfectly safe to use as their heating element is sealed off. Electricity used to power the shower will not touch the water which touches you, so you don’t need to worry about electric shocks.
Do I need an electrician to replace an electric shower?
You may be wondering if it’s an electrician or a plumber who will replace electric showers. In short, you’re going to need someone who is experienced in both plumbing and electricals to remove and install your electric showers. We certainly recommend hiring professionals to carry out this work, especially when your new showering system could have a different wattage to your previous one.
How long does it take to replace an electric shower?
Typically, replacing a commercial electric shower will take about two hours if all the parts are ready. Please note that installing electric showers for the first time will take longer (approximately 8 hours).
What kW electric shower do I need?
This partly depends on how powerful you want your electric shower to be. Generally, the higher the kW rate, the higher the hot water pressure output. In a commercial setting, it is particularly important to ensure that the fuse your electric showers will be running off of has the required amount of amps to run electric showers with a higher kW rating, especially when running multiple electric showers. Remember to always consider your safety first and get a trained electrician to help inspect your electrical supply.
Does an electric shower need a boiler?
No, an electric shower does not require a boiler. Electric showers heat the cold water supply by sending an electrical current through a heating element, which in turn heats up the water.
What is the most powerful electric shower?
The highest powered electric shower we offer at Commercial Washrooms is our 10.8kW range, including the Mira Sport and Mira Sport Max. Browse our range to find the right shower for you.
