What Is A Semi-Recessed Basin?

What Is A Semi-Recessed Basin?

Selecting the wash basins for your washroom is not always as simple as you might assume. From underslung sinks, to lay-in wash basins, there are numerous options, styles and finishes to consider. However, semi-recessed wash basins have proven an incredibly popular option as they offer a great compromise when space is limited.

So what is a semi-recessed basin?

A semi-recessed wash basin straddles the line between a wall mounted basin, and a counter mounted one. In essence, half of the basin overhangs the edge of the counter, while the other half sits back into it. Essentially, the front half of the basin sticks out and away from the vanity unit.

A small space solution

Sometimes if space is at a premium and there are concerns when it comes to the depth of the vanity unit, semi-recessed basins come into their own. They allow for a half depth vanity unit, due to the fact that only half of the basin is mounted on the countertop. This is great for companies and organisations who want to bring in the durability and smart modern aesthetics of a vanity unit, even when space is tight. From a functionality standpoint, it also means users can get their feet under the basin, which actually improves accessibility.

How to fit a semi-recessed basin

Semi-recessed basins are installed on the front edge of a vanity unit. Most other sinks are installed more centrally and are either installed beneath an opening on the counter, or directly on top of one. At Commercial Washrooms we offer a full range of services including specification, design and installation. If you’re interested in the supply and fit of wash basins, just get in touch.

Concealing pipework

While many wall mounted wash basins leave the water and waste pipes exposed, semi-recessed basins mean you can house all the mains services behind a vanity unit or cupboard. This is a strong move in commercial environments and helps make the washroom easier to clean. Because the pipework is concealed, it reduces surface areas and also protects them from tampering and accidental damage.
