Located in Chislehurst, London, Babington House School caters to students from pre-school age through to A-Levels. Commercial Washrooms were engaged to handle the refurbishment of three toilet rooms at the esteemed private school which were carried out in the summer holidays of 2022.
After initial site meetings we produced an extensive and in-depth specification alongside drawings and 3D visuals before breaking ground on any works. Once the project was green-lit by the client, we then booked in and coordinated the works to coincide with the school summer holidays. This meant that there was no disruption to the operations of the school in term time.
The three rooms were cleared out and stripped back to the bare structure before beginning the new installations. We laid a vinyl safety flooring from Altro on the floors, an incredibly durable material that boasts advanced anti-slip properties. This was partnered with Altro Whiterock wall cladding making the rooms easy to clean. Whiterock not only holds strong hygiene credentials but also high fire ratings.
The rooms were fitted with a fresh suspended ceiling which housed new ventilation systems and LED lighting controlled via infrared sensors. This low-energy setup means lights are only activated when a user enters the room, automatically switching off after a set period.
For the toilets, we fitted a full height DUCT set. This creates a thin service void, or false wall, where the mains water, waste pipes, cistern and electrics can be concealed out of view, hidden behind removable wall panels. This wall cladding was integrated with the new toilet cubicles all made from solid grade laminate. This is a strong material that’s completely impervious to water, so it will never swell or weaken from ingress water. Armitage Shanks back to wall toilets were installed, partnered with sensor activated flush kits.
At the hand wash area, we built custom vanity units to mount Corian solid surface wash troughs. These wash units were paired with Armitage Shanks deck mounted sensor taps, and sensor activated hand dryers. By employing sensor activation throughout the washroom, the number of touch points is notably diminished, significantly improving the hygiene of the finished washrooms.
Completed on time and on budget, this full turn-key project was handed over to the client before the new school year began.
“We had 3 school washrooms refurbished this summer by Mark and his team. Despite the challenges that are facing all projects this summer with the ongoing COVID impact, supplies and rising costs, all 3 have been finished to a superb standard, on time and budget. We are delighted with the finished refurbishment.” – Sharon Best, School Business Manager, Babington House School
