Complete Washroom Overhaul for Global Charity
We were contacted by a large international charity to overhaul all the washroom facilities in its central London HQ. With 11 washrooms over four floors and no space for skips, a meticulous phased plan of works was required. Our full washroom refurbishment service was offered and accepted.
We commenced work in January 2019, carrying out the complete renovations on a floor by floor basis. Removal of existing washrooms was done over weekends when the offices were closed to keep disruption to the premises to a minimum. Due to the location being close to Waterloo a ‘wait and load’ waste removal service had to be engaged, a service we use often on city projects where access is limited.
Across the site we used integrated plumbing systems to conceal all pipework and cisterns, creating an easy to clean space on every floor. Armitage Shanks sanitaryware was used throughout including back to wall toilets and concealed trap urinals.
DVS sensors were fitted to control the toilet and urinal flush operations, which across the site delivers significant savings in water and sewerage costs. Additionally, a PIR lighting system was installed so that washroom lights are only activated when a user is inside.
Solid grade laminate cubicles were selected with a clean wood grain finish. This material was chosen for its extreme durability, being completely impervious to water it never suffers from weakness or swelling from ingress moisture. Following on this durable theme, we fitted solid surface wash troughs, which are both heat and scratch-resistant.
Among the washrooms we refurbished, a unisex washroom was included. This required us to use full-height cubicles, for increased user privacy. In the disabled washrooms, we used full Doc-M packs, which contain grab rails, raised toilet pan with a paddle flush lever, washbasin, and lever-operated taps.
Showers were required by the charity due to many staff members commuting by bicycle. We located these in the basement and created a water-tight shower space by cladding the walls and ceiling with Altro Whiterock. Ingress protected LED lighting was also installed, along with Altro Walkway vinyl flooring that was fitted throughout the site's washrooms.
The full turn-key project was met with high praise from the client and was delivered on budget, on time.
