The Association of British Insurers (ABI) occupy two floors of a central London high rise office block. The organisation came to us to handle a swift, but an impactful refresh of their client-facing washrooms across their workspace.
The existing washrooms were in full working order, but rather than undergo a full refurbishment, ABI was looking to replace the hand basins for something more dynamic and aesthetically pleasing. After some preliminary consultations, we drew the specification for an expansive wash trough with discreet under counter storage.
A solid surface wash trough in a speckled finish was installed along with a complimentary back-painted glass splash-back. This was coloured in a blue and purple to play into the clients exacting design.
Sensor taps were fitted along with sensor-activated soap dispensers, both from the manufacturer Dolphin. With the users never needing to physically touch the fittings, sensor activation significantly improves the hygiene of any wash space and reduces the spread of dirt and bacteria.
These slick new wash troughs were mounted on a slimline underframe built from solid grade laminate, a material that is perfectly suited for washroom environments. Being completely impervious to water, this durable material will never swell or weaken from ingress water or moisture. Discreet pop-off front panels revealed a storage space beneath the new hand wash area, as well as the main liquid soap reservoir to service all the soap dispensers.
To keep things looking clean in the washroom, we also concealed a waste bin underneath the counter. Spent paper towels could be dropped into this bin through a waste chute that we cut into the wash trough’s worktop. This paired well with the boxed mirrors which hung above the hand wash area, which were lit with LED lighting. In the slim void behind the mirrors were concealed paper towel dispensers, which can be accessed from underneath the mirror.
This project was carried out in two short phases that were performed out of hours so as not to disrupt day to day operations. The removal of the existing wash basins and necessary services was done on the Friday evening, with the installation taking place over the weekend.
On budget and on time, this speedy project delivered strong hygiene credentials and a lasting, impactful finish, completely transforming the washrooms without the expense of a refurbishment.
